Basketball Game: November 20 at 2:15 PM between the Ethics Club vs. JCHS Staff. Cost: $2 tickets sold at lunch and at the gym doors before the game.

Winter Guard Tryouts are November 9th-13th. Plan to meet in the band room from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM. No experience needed.  Come any day you are available. Guys are welcome, too.

Johnson County Young Artists, Heritage Hall, and Barter Theatre staff will offer a one day workshop for the children of Johnson County. The sessions will take place on Saturday, November 21st, from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM at Heritage Hall.  The cost  will be $10 for the workshop. Please watch The Tomahawk for further details.

There will be a Dodge Ball Tournament, November 20th, at 2:00 PM. Tickets will be sold on Wednesday, November 18th. Deadline for teams is November 16th. Only 10 teams with a roster of 6 players and a tournament fee of $25 will play. The games are double elimination.  The winner will play the staff for the Champion Tee Shirt’s. See Mr. Quave!

All band students who are going to the football game tonight need to eat first lunch today and then report to the band room.

Cheerleaders report to commons area at 1:45pm today to get ready to leave for game.

Students, please remember, we do have a NO TOUCH POLICY. There is way too much touching going on.  Any type of kiss will be written up as inappropriate touch.

Yearbooks will be on sale at lunch November 9th - November 20th.  Plain yearbooks will be $55.00.  A $30.00 deposit is required to reserve a yearbook.  Names and icons must be ordered at this time and are $5.00 each.  No orders will be taken after November 20th. Yearbooks will not be on sale again until the end of the year when they are distributed, and they will be $65.00 then.

Saturday School will be held November 21, 2009 from 1 PM - 4 PM. Please sign up in the commons area at the student information center.

October 29, 2009 - Red Ribbon Week

Football at Happy Valley, Thursday, October 29, 2009 7:00 PM !!GO LONGHORNS!!

Mountain City Elementary will be presenting The Unity Tree Monday, November 9th, 6:30 PM at Heritage Hall.

The softball team will be having a semi-formal dance on November 14 from 8-12. Cost is $5 for singles and $8 for doubles.  Tickets will be sold during all lunches until November 9th. You must have a ticket to get in.

Haunted House by Skills:  October 29th from 6-9 PM and October 30th & 31st  7-11 PM at the JCHS masonry building. Admission $3 for all ages.

Anyone interested in being in the 2009 Miss JCHS Pageant can pickup registration materials and practice calendar in Mrs. Eggers room.  Mandatory orientation meeting is Thursday, November 5th from 3:30-4:30.

Wednesday, October 28, 2009  “Turn Your Back on Drugs Day”  Students are to wear their shirts backwards.

Friday, October 30, 2009  “Wear Red Day”  Students are to wear as much red as they can.

Juniors & Seniors:  The ETSU WIA program is recruiting juniors & seniors for 2009-2010.  The program offers summer jobs, career, exploration, and field trips for career and college fairs.  Even It Up, a computer-building workshop is offered to students to build their own computer and take home at the end of the course.  The program also offers supportive services items such as school fees , prom dress, and cap and gown fees for graduating seniors.  If you are interested in any of these services, please see Lisa Mullins in the CTE building for more information.

Report Cards come out today.

10/15, Softball player and parent meeting tonight in the JCHS Library Media Center @ 6:30 PM

Action Coalition is having a dance right after the football game Friday night in the JCHS Commons Area until 12:00 PM. The cost is $2.00.

If you don't want to dance, please come to the Mountain City Presbyterian Church for games, refreshments, and movies after the game.

No skateboards are allowed on school property. Skateboards will be taken if seen. ($20.00 fine to get the skateboard back)

All volleyball players need to turn in Jerseys to Ms. Mays today.

The yearbook staff would like to feature the students who are not originally from Mountain City in the next yearbook. Please see the yearbook staff in room 121, Mrs. Shirley’s room. Also, they are now accepting hunting pictures for the yearbook. If you have any pictures you would like to submit, please bring them to Mrs. Shirley’s room by Wednesday, September 30.

Flu shot (for school employees) at JCHS/Vocational will be September 25 from 2-3pm. Each person will need to have a copy of their insurance card with their name and date of birth and SS# written on the paper.

Students need to be in ASD by 3:20pm, and Saturday School by 1:00pm.

Upward Bound is a college preparatory program offered through ETSU. If you are interested in applying, please pick up an application in guidance. All applications are due back by Sept. 23rd to guidance. For more information visit www.ubetsu.org.

Young at Heart Square Dance Club is offering beginners classes starting Monday, September 14 from 6:00-7:30 PM at First United Methodist Church Hall

The senior picnic will be September 10, 2009 from 3:30-6:00 at Central Baptist Church picnic area.

Choice #1 came in second with 12 votes and choice # 2 had 5 votes.

Senior t- shirt order forms will be distributed on Friday during advisory and need to be returned with a $5.00 deposit by September 4.

Year book – Best friend to the end – Please submit two pictures:  1 younger and 1 present day   The deadline for submissions is Monday, August 28th.

SENIORS:

  • Vote on Senior T-shirt design in the LMC on Tuesday and Wednesday. See Mrs. Dunn for a ballot. T-shirt order

  • The 2009 Niswonger Scholarship application is now available for you to pick up and fill out. The deadline for the completed application is Friday, September 18. Please see Mr. Plyler for a copy of the application.

  • Also, the Roan Scholars application for ETSU is also available. The deadline for this scholarship is Thursday, October 1. Please see Mr. Plyler if you are going to apply to ETSU and are interested in this scholarship.
  • TUSCULUM COLLEGE FAIR - Wednesday, September 2, 2009 -- Parent signed permission forms for this trip are located in the Student Information Center. These forms are due back in the office by Friday, August 21, 2009
